Hi Folks!

I've been very busy these last few months. More or less settled now.
First- the snaps above - 1 after Sunday mass, 2 Charmaine sitting on a bench in Hallett Cove beach, the me with Dylan at Sommerton beach, Charmaine in her kitchen, (she always wanted a proper kitchen), My "Mercedes" which I picked up for 500 dollars, Brian and me, when he came over to Adelaide, Keenan in his school uniform

If you guys just look up to one of my previous comments I was hoping that Mamata does not call for one more bandh. Well that was not to be, Just the day I was leaving India there was another bandh called. Our flight was at 10.50 pm, so the previous day as soon as we came to know about the bandh, we just packed whatever we could and left to look for a hotel near the airport.

No hotels were available, as luck would have it, there was some doctors' conference going on and all rooms were booked. So Charmaine and me and the kids and our eight pieces of luggage (we needed 3 trolleys)sat in the lobby for 24 hours. YOu guys can imagine the chaos at the airport. With kids it was very difficult for us as we had to spend a sleepless night and the the whole of the next day sitting in exactly the same spot.

Since our flight was late in the night, that meant another sleepless night, since we arrived in Singapore at 4am. Instead of shopping the whole day,we slept for almost 10 hours before some quick shopping and a trip to the airport. Must say Singapore is a great place. Our next flight was again at night again, we arrived in Adelaide at 9am. We spent 3 sleepless nights one after another. That mamata started it.

Now, we stay on rent in a nice big house with a large backyard. Keenan's schools is about 10 minutes walking distance away. I work in a factory about 15 minutes drive away.

What can I say, things are different here, the weather can be lovely cold, and sometimes terribly hot.

Aussies are nice people but some things I find odd - the ads on TV are mostly about sales at various outlets. Not much creative work. There's a broadband service named DODO, and I saw a soap called PLACENTA.

Gosh, time to go.I'll write in with more details later.

Hey Dome! Nice to see you guys are happy and gay! A MERC yet!Good for you...but I bet it's not half as good as an ol' Ind Suzuki huh?
24hrs at the airport! You chut why didn't you contact any of us? It seems ridiculous to say now what I could have done, but you fucking prick you should realize that we ordinary 3rd world buggers could have made your whole 3 days very comfortable!
Anyway let baigans be baigans....you working in a factory! Did you tell them that you're a Bangal, whinger and will start some union baaji within a short while. Or are you sucking up to the bosses...."I love you father, I really love you!"
How're things mate? Adelaide is a little off the beaten track but have you bumped into any thesuas yet? How are you coping with the weird Aussie routine?
Nice to see you are still trying desperately (like me) to keep this blog alive.
Warm regards and best of luck!

Hey DB, yes the aussie routine has its advantages and disadvantages. There's lots of free time for most people,(not for me,I work a 12 hr shift)but there are no 24 hr help lines, so if one needs any help from telstra etc one needs to call between mon and fri 9-5 only.

The shopping experience is incredible.there are so many shops and so much to buy and what's more a lot of the stuff is affordable for us lower middle class people.

The Churches are devoid of ANY young people. Only retirees go to Church. The only young people in Church are migrants.

The quality of the meat available is fantastic but getting masalas is not easy. Can't seem to get Kashmiri chillies, have to use paprika instead. Vindaloo here tastes different. No spicy pizzas.

The spiciest sausages at the market are called BUMBURNERS, but they hardly stimulate the Indian tongue. Some people find food spicy if there is some haldi in it.

Haven't met any AI's except an old lady from Banagalore.

Keenan rides his bike to school now and Dylan can talk enough to have small conversations.

CD's are expensive, I still keep converting dollars to rupees mentally.

Driving here is a real pleasure.
Oh yeah, some more big advertisers on TV - SUPERCHEAP AUTO, THE REJECT SHOP, and MRS BANKRUPT'S DUMPHOUSE.

ha ha , thats not at all surprising , Mamata calling a bandh just when you're about to leave the country - its like tentacles of 3rd worldness reaching out to grab you and prevent you from escaping. Anyway , glad to know you guys have more or less settled in to your new way of life. Adelaide , being a small town , may not really whett your apettite in any way , given the fact that we come from India , but its a nice peaceful life. After sometime you may find yourself getting a bit bored with the slow pace , but that feeling will again gradually pass till it seems like "fuckin' hell , what was I thinking , living in a shithole like Thane".

I must say that you have still maintained your potbelly...its time you did something or else come summer when you go to the beach , all you'll be able to chase will be small dogs...while you suck it in and pretend you haven't noticed the "brazillian" thongs around you.

It was nice chatting with you, do call more often - cheers.

hi dome

you appear to have put on some weight - it's a pity we could not catch up while in cal

i was almost caught unawares by the bandh - had i not called a mate of mine from perth, who was in cal at the time, i would not have known there was to be a bandh

anyway, it all worked out well and we had a fine time in goa

i caught up with dung dung and hatch when i returned to cal

nice to know you are settling in and enjoying your adopted country, and also found some work fairly quickly

hope to catch up with you in perth one day

congrats to osho and chris on the arrival their baby girl

take care all
