Scandals / Politics / Rants etc.

khankis
Dedicated to all haters of animal-lovers

BCDAS - Hope you will allow a bit of activism on this blog. This post is for any thing you feel is worth reading about, but has nothing to do with Nostalgia or jokes. Remember, Chris Godfrey thought we only chased girls and watched blue movies, till we won Explosions. After that his opinion of us became far more positive.

I love animals since they taste so good. I hate organisations like PETA. Instead of sending out Chain Prayers etc. Please copy this article and distribute it to the rest of the world.

"ETHICAL" DEFINED: After more than 100 dead dogs were dumped in a trash dumpster over four weeks, police in Ahoskie, N.C., kept an eye on the trash receptacle behind a supermarket. Sure enough, a van drove up and officers watched the occupants throw in heavy plastic bags. They detained the two people in the van and found 18 dead dogs in plastic bags in the dumpster, including puppies; 13 more dead dogs were still in the van.

POLICE SAY THE VAN IS REGISTERED TO THE HEADQUARTERS OF PEOPLE FOR THE ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS, AND THE TWO OCCUPANTS, ANDREW B. COOK, 24, AND ADRIA JOY HINKLE, 27, IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS PETA EMPLOYEES. AN AUTOPSY PERFORMED ON ONE OF THE DOGS FOUND IT WAS
HEALTHY BEFORE IT WAS KILLED. POLICE SAY PETA HAS BEEN PICKING UP THE ANIMALS -- ALIVE -- FROM NORTH CAROLINA ANIMAL SHELTERS, PROMISING TO FIND THEM GOOD HOMES. COOK AND HINKLE HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH 62 FELONY COUNTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY. IN RESPONSE TO THE ARRESTS PETA PRESIDENT INGRID NEWKIRK SAID IT'S AGAINST THE GROUP'S POLICY FOR EMPLOYEES TO DUMP ANIMALS IN THE TRASH, BUT "THAT FOR SOME ANIMALS IN NORTH CAROLINA, THERE IS NO KINDER OPTION THAN EUTHANASIA." (Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald) ...Oops, my mistake: that's "Playing God" Defined.

THE MORE I LEARN ABOUT PETA, the less I think of them. The story of them killing animals isn't even unusual. ACCORDING TO PETA'S OWN FILINGS, IN 2004 PETA *KILLED* 86.3 PERCENT OF THE ANIMALS ENTRUSTED TO ITS CARE -- a number that's rising, not falling. Meanwhile, the SPCA in PETA's home town (Norfolk, Va.) was able to find loving homes for 73 percent of the animals put in its care. A shortage of funds? Nope: LAST YEAR PETA TOOK IN $29 MILLION IN TAX-EXEMPT DONATIONS. IT SIMPLY HAS OTHER PRIORITIES FOR THE FUNDS, LIKE FUNDING TERRORISM (YES, REALLY). BUT DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT: I GOT MY FIGURES FROM http://www.petakillsanimals.com AND THEY HAVE COPIES OF PETA'S STATE AND FEDERAL FILINGS TO BACK IT UP. The bottom line: if you donate money to PETA because you think they care for and about animals, you need to think some more. PETA literally yells and screams about how others "kill animals" but THIS is how they operate? Pathetic.

And you know what I wonder? PETA's *official* count of animals they kill is 86.3 percent. But if they're going around picking up animals, killing them while they drive around and not even giving them a CHANCE to be adopted, and then destroying the evidence by dumping the bodies in the trash, are THOSE deaths being reported? My guess: no. While 86.3 percent is awful, the actual number is probably much, MUCH higher. HOW DARE THEY LECTURE ANYONE ABOUT THE "ETHICAL" TREATMENT OF ANIMALS!

(I was *inundated* with requests by Premium subscribers for a way to spread around the story and comments above. They're thus of course now posted at http://www.thisistrue.com/peta along with special permission and formatting for bloggers to use. Of course, as the copyright notice says, you can forward this issue in its entirety, too, by e-mail to anyone you think would find it of interest.)

Fellow Khnakis, dont know whether you know this but MARS ( the planet- not the chocolate ) comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the
moon) the brightest object in the night sky.

Its true , I kid you not, starting in August, Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.

This month and next, Earth ( thats our planet, for all you ignoramuses ) is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in
recorded history.( Recorded history is kind of an oxymoron , dont you think, I mean if history wasn't recorded , it wouldn't be history , now , would it ). But anyway, back to the news flash ...

At the beginning of August it will rise in the east ( same side as where the sun rises ) at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth( dont know what this means but it sounds impressive )at about 3 a.m.

By the end of August when Earth and Mars are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m.

The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky.

That's pretty cool to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history (that oxymoron again ! ). So, mark your calendar ( if you dont have one , tie a knot in your kerchief ) at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the
month. And be sure to watch the sky on August 27th. It will look like the Earth has two moons!

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287 ( by which time we'all be almost 290 years old and may need our glasses )

Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.

Share this with your children and grandchildren.( Well , if you have grandchildren then you better get your glasses out now and wipe them good or you'll miss the show ).

NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL
EVER SEE THIS AGAIN.ALSO NO ONE DEAD WILL SEE THIS , BUT THATS A MOOT POINT.

We were once again reminded of that bitter truth: you better vote for us, you better pay all your taxes, you better shell out for our perks, you better treat us like Gods. But when shit hits the ceiling, dude, you are pretty much on your own. Take care of your own arse, we won’t be there for you.
So there we were.

Trudging dangerously through chest deep water for miles and miles for no fault of ours. Dissolved spit, urine, excreta, carcasses and other assorted muck flying into our pathetic faces. Snakes swimming along for company. The meteorology department was, as usual, comatose. The mantris were busy blaming Mother Nature. The cops vanished from the face of the earth.
The firemen went underground. The BMC workers were, as always, on paid leave. We could so easily have died like cockroaches trapped in gutter water. Indeed, many of us did.

It’s always the same frickin’ story. Mumbai gets caught with its pants down. Tales of horror get splashed in the media. Tales of valour get splashed in the media. Ordinary Mumbaiwallahs die. Ordinary Mumbaiwallahs survive. Ordinary Mumbaiwallahs rescue.

The CM cheerfully waves out from the skies. The police chief makes all the right noises.

The PM flies down to sing praises for the city’s ‘fighting spirit’. Rubbish about being another Shanghai gets flung at us. All’s promptly forgotten. We learn sweet eff-all from the experience. Soon, the city gets assaulted all over again. And the circle of shitty life, death and farce repeats itself.

So then why exactly do we settle for this crappy destiny? After all, a hugely critical city like Mumbai, a city that’s the engine of progress in this country, a city with the hardest working populace, definitely needs better administration, definitely deserves better leadership. A responsible, accountable, efficient leadership. Not the bunch of incompetent losers it’s always saddled with.

Imagine if the city was a private enterprise, and its CM, the CEO. After the pathetic performance of the last few days, the CEO would have been unceremoniously booted out of office by the shareholders. But we cannot sack our CM and his team for non-performance. We can only blame our rotten luck, and move on.

This is the price we pay for democracy, of having ignorant villagers run a megapolis like Mumbai… small townies who win from their tiny constituencies and land up with the task of managing a city they cannot understand, cannot deal with, cannot connect with.

What can you expect from leaders whose top priority isn’t fixing of roads, sea routes and railways. Nor is it education, health and employment. Their No 1 priority is banning of dance bars! All their energies get spent in getting after the harmless chicks who get paid to shake.

So then what’s the solution? The dream thing, of course, would be to separate Mumbai from the rest of the state, and run it totally via private enterprise. Where decisions are made by able, skilled, talented professionals, not by twitty country bumpkins.

Where performance is all that matters. But this isn’t gonna happen, and we know it. The netas, both at the Centre and state level, will never let go of a cash cow called Mumbai, there’s just too much money to be milked out from the city.

So that leaves us with just one option: We need to appoint a professionally qualified, result-oriented mayor, and bestow her/him with executive powers and freedom to manage the city.

And pay the person heavily to make things happen. Let the charade called democracy continue to run, let the mantris continue to get appointed, let them continue with their corrupt practices, let them worry about the chicks to get paid to shake.

But let them have nothing to do with key tasks like infrastructure planning, modernisation, disaster management and public safety. Let the mayor be answerable only to the President of India.

And until we get the administration we deserve, let’s just stop paying the bloody taxes. Let’s stop financing a useless, inept system. Cos when we get into trouble, these buggers aren’t there for us. They leave us to drown in our own shit. So okay, we’ll take care of our own arses. But let them take care of their own too.

YOur right ofcourse. But right now what we have is people who dont blong to bombay, have nothing to do with Bombay. People who need to keep their voters in far away places like Sangli and Satara happy. So we have a Deputy CM who can;t be bothered about any work on Bombay. He's only interested in banning ladies' bars. He even says that he doesn't give a rat's ass about the resultant loss of jobs for 70,000 bar girls. We have a minister Kripashankar Singh who wants more votes and has proposed that ALL slums should be regularised, wherever they are. Even if a CEO does turn out to be a crook, since he is Bombay based, chances are that we might get some urgent work done here.
The other suggestion we've had, is for Bombay to break away from the Indian union a la SIngapore.
It seems to be working. We've just been promised another 5000 crores in funding by the centre.

Yes 5000 Crores and 5000 more reasons to bribe, corrupt and what not!!

I agree with Goltalab - that politics & governance in a democracy in of the people and by the people.

Lets us recollect the times we may have or know of someone who has pushed paper envelopes under tables, or paid a TT for the extra berth, whatever?

It starts there and ends at the Gadi in Delhi.

Truly we have a voice and we have a vote. BUt do we have options. It maybe time that we rewarded our poltician with hefty pay checks - like pvt CEOs before we damn them. Maybe its too late now as most of them have got into the act of self-determined and self-established remuneration schemes.

Before you apply a theory, practice or concept apply it to yourself - does it gel? Money isn't everything provided we meet or cross the level/watermark of what brings good healthy living to ones family. To be satsified and to be truly motivated to achieve success (outside of yr bank balance) in what you do.

Unfortunately majority of the MPs and MLAs are in the business for their own selfish goals - but hey they too are trying to provide a living. And they only have teh surety of 1 term if a majority. Of late that too doesn't exist.

Also we need to look at the form of government and maybe look for accountability.

The dual role of state and central govts. seems to be the bane of many problems. What it does is allow levels of govt whereby the buck (literally) gets passed, we can all cover our asses, finger-point and eventually get sweet fuck-all done.

To draw an analogy from the pvt sector why dont we have the following:

Chairman = President, does sweet fuck-all

CEO/President = Prime Minister, face of the nation (definitely must have edu qual)

Board of Directors/VP = Cabinet Ministers, to discuss and determine, implement & monitor legislation, strategies, budget/fiscal responsibilities

Division Mgrs = Chief Ministers
Implement Strategies, legislation, budgets formulated by the board for their respective states

Sr.Managers = MP/MLA call them whatever, but they will be only one form, not both. They will be the responsible for districts in each state to provide hands-on performances. This shoudl also include roles for what City/Municipal councilors do.

The private sector role will be in the outsourcing of all projects. Govt will monitor performance while private sector gets the jobs done (well that is eactly what happen today anyway, but most projects find their way into public sector org)

OH and most importantly we vote our CEO and not our executives, sr managers or board of directors. Alternatively, maybe we want to elect the board, who in turn choses the CEO.

What we can then do is add pre-requisites to each position. This would be a blend of hand-on knowledge, education and overall personality/character etc. Maybe Psychometric evaluation is important to identify personal skills, attributes etc.

Given that we have a millions of PhDs, Masters, Doctors we shouldn't have a problem. If someone has bought their certificates to attest their credentials, then we have the balance of actual works experience. For those who don't have the degrees, the expertise, psychometrics, hands-on knowledge comes in handy.
